In the computer lab we finished our 1st movies. In class we watched them. They were awesome!

At the end of the day we were deciding how to spend our money from the trail mix sale. We are going to adopt a penguin family but we have $25 extra. We are trying to decide what other animal we could help. Our choices are the beluga whale, sea turtle, or the sea otter. What is your vote?

Last week we didn't have school because it was Presidents Week. We have been very busy this week and didn't get to blog on Monday and Tuesday.

Today was Jimena's birthday. She turned 6 and her mom brought in chocolate cupcakes with green frosting. They were yummy!

We had a big mystery today. We were supposed to see a magic show but the magician was missing! We think he was practicing his dissappearing trick. I wonder when he will reappear.

Today we learned what a silhoutte is and how it looks. We learned that presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln have famouse sillhouttes. Mrs. Power traced our sillhouttes on the Promethean Board. Tomorrow we are going to write about ourself and add it to our sillhouttes.

We learned that a panny is worth 1 cent and nickle is worth 5, a dime is worth 10 cents and a quater is worth 25. We also learned that 1 dollar is the same a s 4 quarters. We can't wait to sell tomorrow at recess!

We learned that even Kindergarteners can make a difference and change the world. To do this we are going to sell trail mix at recess. Here is our lisrt of what will go in our trail mix:\
  • chocolate chips
  • M&Ms
  • pretzels
  • cereal
  • goldfish

  • popcorn

This week Jimena is our student of the week. She decorated her poster and we learned that she likes to write. Anthony shared a story about Charlie Brown.

Today we decided who was going to be in what songs for our penguin play. We also started doing our MAPS testing at the computer lab this week. Some of the questions are easy and some are hard. It is helping us know what we are ready to learn.

Wednesday January 13, 2010

Today we learned about preditors and prey. We learned that preditors eat other animals. Those animals are called its prey. It was funny when we acted out being a preditor and a prey. Cameron was a fish, Mrs. Power was the penguin, and Anthony was a killer whale. At first Mrs. Power turned to Cameron the fish. Mrs. Power was the preditor and Cameron was her prey. After she ate Cameron the fish she turned to swim away. All of a sudden she swam into Anthony the killer whale. Now Mrs. Power was the prey and Anthony was the preditor. Anthony gobbled Mrs. power the penguin and then swam away.

We did caterpillar writing again today. More people got Skittles today because they had beautiful handwriting. Maybe more kids will get some tomorrow!

We made predictions on our story Penguins to the Rescue. Some kids were right about the shadowy figure and some were wrong. It is okay to be wrong when you make a prediction. The figure was really the mama seal. We also learned that seals eat penguins so the story is fantasy because the peguins helped the seal. This really wouldn't happen because the seal would eat the penguin!

Today we read Penguins to the Rescue. We learned vocabulary words like rescue, drifting, floe, sobbing, skimming, and swirl. Mrs. Power typed a list of adjectives. Adjectives are words that describe something. We described a mitten. It was blue, fluffy, fuzzy, warm, small, comfortable, and big.

We started caterpillar writing. We came up with when and where phrases. We wrote a wonderful sentence. Mrs. power was looking for nice handwriting. If we did it correctly she said we had Skittle writing and we got a skittle. If we didn't get one we will try again tomorrow!

Anthony is our first student of the week. He brought back his poster and Mrs. Power gave him a special blue star to take home.

Today we read Three Cheers for Tacky. It was a funny story. Tacky was different and the other penguins didn't like him at first. At the end Tacky helped them to win the cheering contest. They learned that being different is okay.

Today we were writing about what we have learned so far in kindergarten. Some kids learned how to read, write, say their letter sounds, tie shoes, and subtract!

When we line up outside we stand next to letter blends. We need to think of a word that begins with that sound. This is helping us to read and write and stand quietly on line.

Yesterday we had pancakes! Mrs. Power made pancakes for us. It was a special breakfast! It was so yummy. We also made New Year Hats. We rolled the dice and solved the subtraction problem to figure out how many decorations we could put on our hats. It was a lot of fun.

We learned that Mrs. Power is having a boy! Happy New Year!
