We did caterpillar writing again today. More people got Skittles today because they had beautiful handwriting. Maybe more kids will get some tomorrow!
We made predictions on our story Penguins to the Rescue. Some kids were right about the shadowy figure and some were wrong. It is okay to be wrong when you make a prediction. The figure was really the mama seal. We also learned that seals eat penguins so the story is fantasy because the peguins helped the seal. This really wouldn't happen because the seal would eat the penguin!

Today we read Penguins to the Rescue. We learned vocabulary words like rescue, drifting, floe, sobbing, skimming, and swirl. Mrs. Power typed a list of adjectives. Adjectives are words that describe something. We described a mitten. It was blue, fluffy, fuzzy, warm, small, comfortable, and big.
We started caterpillar writing. We came up with when and where phrases. We wrote a wonderful sentence. Mrs. power was looking for nice handwriting. If we did it correctly she said we had Skittle writing and we got a skittle. If we didn't get one we will try again tomorrow!
Anthony is our first student of the week. He brought back his poster and Mrs. Power gave him a special blue star to take home.

Today we were writing about what we have learned so far in kindergarten. Some kids learned how to read, write, say their letter sounds, tie shoes, and subtract!

When we line up outside we stand next to letter blends. We need to think of a word that begins with that sound. This is helping us to read and write and stand quietly on line.

Yesterday we had pancakes! Mrs. Power made pancakes for us. It was a special breakfast! It was so yummy. We also made New Year Hats. We rolled the dice and solved the subtraction problem to figure out how many decorations we could put on our hats. It was a lot of fun.
We learned that Mrs. Power is having a boy! Happy New Year!

Today we learned more about bats. We learned that bats are mammals. Bats are the only mammals that can fly. Bats are nocturnal. They sleep upside down. Some bats hibernate in the winter and some migrate south. The grey bat is endangered. People sometimes go into caves and wake up hibernating bats. This hurts the bats because there is no food for them to eat. We also found out that some bats eat insects, fruit, blood, or fish. We can't wait to learn more!!
